Marburg entrepreneur Annabell Pohl and her family together with the publisher Marianne Salentin-Träger and the Frankfurt book team are delighted about the Gourmand World Cookbook Award 2020 in the “FOOD CULTURE” category and the GAD Gold Medal 2021 from Germany’s gastronomy association, the Gastronomische Akademie Deutschlands e. V.
The brand-new 448-page gourmet travel book ‘Algarve – A Culinary Journey’ by Marianne Salentin-Träger (editor), Rita Henss (author), Anja Jahn (portrait photographer), Markus Bassler (food and architecture photographer) and Oliver Hick-Schulz (art director) has been acknowledged in two categories of the Gourmand World Cookbook Award 2021. Annabell Pohl, the client from Marburg who commissioned the multi-award-winning Frankfurt book team with the wish to create a lasting tribute to her beloved Algarve, is particularly happy. Annabell Pohl: “This book is a matter of the heart for all of my family, so we are especially pleased about the nominations. My grandparents, who discovered the Algarve more than 35 years ago for our family and business, would be very proud.”
Readers are able to learn about the people, culture, nature, cuisine and traditions of Portugal’s southernmost region in a series of insightful accounts. The book team has spent the past two years travelling the Algarve in all seasons, experiencing the influence of the tides, the perils of collecting percebes (goose barnacles), the hardships faced by shellfish harvesters, the protection of oyster beds, and the tradition of cork stripping. They visited regional vegetable farmers, markets, winegrowers and cheese producers; accompanied fishermen on their nightly outings; delighted in the boundless energy of Portuguese water dogs; and marvelled at the daring surfers riding the waves of the Atlantic.
Some of the Algarve’s most popular chefs, from the coast to the mountains, have contributed more than 70 delicious recipes for lovers of this beautiful region to enjoy. With enchanting anecdotes and evocative images, this sensitively conceived and immensely haptic gourmet travel book will whet readers’ appetite for their next visit.
